Drywall Taping and Finishing
Ask any construction professional and they’ll agree: it’s the little things that take the longest, and can make or break the look, feel and functionality of a project. In the world of drywall contractors in Kingston Ontario and beyond, those little things are taping and finishing.
Even if you buy the most expensive drywall, and you install it quickly and perfectly, if the taping and finishing aren’t done right, the whole job will look wrong. So, it’s a good thing that we’re taping and finishing artists! What Is Taping and Finishing? To the uninitiated, drywall seems like a simple process. You cut the boards, you screw them to the wall, and then you slap some mud on the cracks and hope for the best. However, if you’ve ever seen drywall installed that way, you’ll know that’s not how it works. Taping and finishing are probably the most important part of the job. Even if everything else has been done perfectly, if this goes wrong, you’ll either have to live with ugly walls, or do it all over again. |
|
When we tape and finish a drywall installation, we make sure that we use the right kind of tape for the job. We ensure that any screws are properly filled and waterproofed if necessary, and we take a little extra time to make sure that the tape is applied precisely.
When the tape is applied, it’s time to mud, and again, the process starts with the right product for the job, applied carefully and precisely, and, very importantly, allowed to dry properly. Too many people try to rush this part of the process, but we know that if you’re impatient with the drywall compound, it’s going to show.
Finally, when the compound is dry, it’s time to carefully sand all the finished areas, leaving a smooth, unblemished, perfect surface.
Why Taping and Finishing Matter
If taping and finishing of drywall installations and drywall repairs is not done properly, your walls could be left with ridges, dents or furrows, that will only be amplified when you apply paint or wallpaper. If you’re tiling over your walls and they’re not finished properly, you might find you have trouble with tile cement.
Whatever you’re doing on top of the drywall in your home or office, if it’s not finished right, it’ll show, and you’ll see it every day – and we can’t think of anything worse than that!
